Blue Waters, Fields of Flowers and the Hills of Biei

Furano & Biei — A Day Where the Journey and Scenery Are Equally Special

If you want to experience the natural beauty of Hokkaido, our private Furano & Biei day tour from Sapporo is the perfect choice.

Depart from your hotel in Sapporo in the morning and head south towards Furano. During the approximately two-and-a-half-hour drive, vast Hokkaido landscapes unfold before you, making the journey itself part of the experience.

Our first destination is Farm Tomita, one of Furano’s most famous flower farms. During the summer lavender season, the fields become a spectacular purple carpet stretching across the landscape.

Surrounded by the beautiful fragrance of lavender, you can enjoy colourful flower fields and take a relaxing break from the pace of everyday life.

The farm also has shops and cafés where you can enjoy popular treats such as lavender soft-serve ice cream and browse a wide selection of lavender products.

Hill of Flowers

A Hill of Flowers Where Smiles Bloom

For lunch, we recommend choosing a restaurant that uses fresh local ingredients. Enjoy the distinctive flavours of Hokkaido, including Furano cheese, locally grown vegetables and Hokkaido wine.

After lunch, we continue to Biei.

Shikisai-no-Oka is a spectacular flower paradise that looks as though it has come straight from a picture book.

From spring through autumn, colourful flowers cover the hills, creating a beautiful patchwork of red, yellow, purple and orange.

The flowers are changed throughout the seasons, so every visit offers a different view.

The spacious grounds can be explored by cart or buggy, or you can simply enjoy a relaxing walk while feeling the breeze across the hills.

In summer, lavender fills the landscape, while autumn brings flowers such as cosmos and sunflowers.

The contrast between the blue sky, green countryside and vivid flowers creates incredible photo opportunities.

The Blue Pond

Next, we visit the Blue Pond, now one of the most popular attractions in Biei and a must-see destination for visitors to the area.

The surface of the pond shines with an unusually vivid blue colour, creating an almost otherworldly landscape.

The colour changes depending on the season and weather. On a sunny day, the water can appear bright and crystal clear, while cloudy or rainy weather can create a deeper, more mysterious blue.

The reflections of the standing larch trees rising from the water create a scene that looks almost like a painting.

The Blue Pond changes its appearance throughout the day and with the weather, making it a place you may want to visit again and again.

The Blue Pond
Shirahige Falls

Shirahige Falls

After enjoying the Blue Pond, we continue by car for approximately five minutes to Shirahige Falls.

This unusual waterfall is formed by underground water flowing through gaps in the rocks.

The Biei River below the waterfall shines a striking cobalt blue, creating a breathtaking view from the bridge above.

Biei’s Patchwork Road

We then explore Patchwork Road, a scenic area of rolling hills surrounded by beautiful farmland.

The route includes famous landmarks such as the Ken & Mary Tree and the Seven Stars Tree, which became well known through television commercials and photography.

The gently rolling hills, fields and distinctive trees create scenery that looks like something from a picture book.

The colours of the landscape change throughout the seasons, ensuring that every visit offers something new.

Biei Senka

Biei Senka

Biei Senka is a wonderful place to experience the best of Biei’s agriculture and local food.

The facility offers a wide selection of fresh local vegetables, locally produced wheat bread and the famous Biei Corn Bread, along with many other delicious products that can only be enjoyed in the area.

There is also a stylish café and restaurant where you can take your time and enjoy seasonal flavours from Biei.

It is an excellent place to pick up souvenirs and a perfect final stop before returning to Sapporo.
